Mangal Pandey - To create a Rising Again

Mangal Pandey, the first Indian freedom fighter and martyr is brought to light by Amir Khan and his big star cast. This is a huge film with great expectations, as many of the great talents, combine to sweep millions of Indian hearts.

More bravery is vested with people who initiated the Spirit for the great Indian Freedom Struggle, like Veera Pandia Katta Bomman, Mangal pandey, Tippu Sultan, Rani Laxmi Bhai and more… But, even many Indians did not know some of these names.

Just think, how many of us know about NIkola Tesla, who invented Electricity. But everyone must have heard about Edison. He invented a light bulb. What use of a light bulb if you don't have electricity invented by Tesla? The same is the case with our Freedom struggle. Many of those initial leaders like Mangal Pandey were not brought to light.

This movie, "The Rising" is not just titled about the historic 1857 sepoy Mutiny rising. But it should have been labeled to create a Rising of millions of Indian souls now. This is what the lyrics of "Mangal Mangal" song says, "Wake up India, Have you forgotten the sacrifices of Bharat Mata's patriotic sons, Bhagat Singh's and Mangal Pandey's." Thanks to Amir Khan and his team for bringing Mangal Pandey to light, not only in India, but also to the World.

It is said, Shri Mangal Pandey was due to be executed on 18th April but he was hanged ten days before i.e. 8th April. Just because, the British were afraid to keep Mangal alive. It was kept secret. What was hidden by British then, will now be screened throughout the World on August 12, 2005.

Mangal Pandey, seems to be making news, even before the release. While there is a great expectation from this big movie on one side, on the other side there were few protests too. One such protest was in July 2005, by the Amar Shaheed Mangal Pandey Memorial Committee, which was planning to send a notice to film producer Bobby Bedi. The reason for this protest is that, not even a single scene was shot in Mangal pandey’s native village, Nagwan.

A.R.Rehman’s music with Javed Akhtar's patriotic lyrics, raves through the nerves of every Indian and refreshes the deep-rooted Desi feelings. The music CD and music DVD is selling like anything, after the music release.

There are many Indians eagerly waiting for the release of this long awaited movie, The Rising, Ballad of Mangal Pandey.
